HEAVY funk cut featuring the vocal skills of Zilla Florine Mays. Singer, Radio Dj and respected community leader out of Atlanta GA. The FIRST african-american female radio announcer in GA and only the THIRD in the United States. This piece is a 1968 version, of an Allen Toussaint song. Recorded and released on the BIG mans Tou-Sea label.

  1. This one hits the spot for me. I know Zill;a Mays as an R&B/Blues singer, but this is the first Soul number I’ve heard her sing. Her powerful pipes suit it well.


    1. Yes Ian…Seems like many R&B/Blues singers struggled in the 60’s. They made a comeback in the late 60’s early 70’s. Of course there were exceptions especially over here. Some Chess pieces, Atlantic cuts and George Leaners Onederful/M-pac stable. But the ‘sound of the 60’s seems to have been dominated by the soul at least up until 67/8.
