pee ess: how did you find the selector??? (i.e. me).
Feb 16, 2008 @ 17:22:16
Jess, to be honest I can’t exactly remember..it would have been a musical connection for definate and possibly an Alton Ellis one? the selector is an inspiring piece of work so I’ll have to put it down to what Jung called ‘Synchronicity’ with a side order of ‘Collective Unconscious’ of which, for me, music is the catalyst/trigger
Feb 16, 2008 @ 17:26:33
listening rather than downloading…not that I am against it, (downloading), just haven’t found the right solution…I’m thinking of doing a musicologist archive podcast for downloading but the posting is keeping me busy..I’m happy to ‘put them up’ if requested
Jul 05, 2008 @ 22:00:06
Your manifesto is well expressed. Many of us feel the same love for music. I get where you are coming from.
If “downloading” is one’s only concern then, may I respectfully say, that perhaps they ” just don’t quite get it”.
Keep up the good work sir.

thanks Sondan..
p.s as a result of the problems I had with the previous audio player the current one does allow the tune to be downloaded !!

I’m in a bit of a pickle and I hope you can help. I am looking for a song – any song – that sounds identical to the 1930′s Jimpson & Group “Murderer’s Home” as recorded by Alan Lomax. I am in the 11th hour. Like 11:59. Can you help? I know identical is not possible, but I wanted to stress the importance of the replacement song sounding similar to Murderer’s Home.
Feb 04, 2009 @ 17:02:23
Rachel…I could help but would need more time…was that song featured in Gangs Of New York? If so then it’s a Prison Song…finally what’s it for?
Feb 04, 2009 @ 19:01:57
I am thinking I probably now have til the end of the week to find a song. It was featured on the Gangs of New York soundtrack. Right now, others have offered up:
1. 1940 Blind Willie McTell
2. Negro Work Songs and Calls
3. Must Be Born Again or Oh Death Where is Thy Sting by Rev. J.M.Gates
Feb 04, 2009 @ 19:13:25
ill give it some thought and let you know tomorrow
Feb 05, 2009 @ 08:18:27
Rachel,
Is it for an advert or film? it would help to know the context. I have ‘supervised’ music for both and to know what it’s for makes all the difference.
let me know as I have a few ideas

Badly missing me daily shot of themusicologist?
Aug 19, 2009 @ 09:48:52
yeahhh but I’ll be back in the saddle soon.

Hi
I used to listen to your site and it would play the tracks continuously. I cant seem to find that option now. Did it change or am I missing something? I loved listening to it all day at work!
Lex
Dec 11, 2010 @ 13:42:54
Lex,
Thank you for the appreciation and support. Unfortunately that option is no longer possible so you’re not missing anything. To cut a long story short the bandwidth was killing themusicologist and creating all kinds of technical problems.
What I plan to do is create podcasts and upload them in downloadable archives..
If you, (or any of the cats and kittens out there), would like to make a request as to what selection you would like me to upload first please do not hesitate to leave a comment…Next time I’m in Brooklyn I’ll pass by and introduce myself.
Dec 12, 2010 @ 21:43:11
Yes please shoot an email and stop on in when you are in BK. Used to have a funk show on eastvillageradio.com if you are ever wanting some good 70s funk tracks let me know. In LOVE with the womack and womack track you have up and my vote for a podcast would be the boogie/ disco/ soul selections.
Thanks for the amazing site!
Dec 17, 2010 @ 09:39:58
Lex..
I’ll let you know in advance when I’m next in the city and pay you a visit..
Funk show….sounds good. 70′s Funk and Soul was where I began my DJ journey here in London in 1985..Close to my heart..ALWAYS wanting to hear good Soul and Funk..maybe you could drop a selection of your favourites on themusicologist?
The Womack & Womack track? ‘Baby I’m Scared Of You’ or ‘Angie’?
Soul & Boogie Podcast….I’ll let you know when it’s up.
Thanks again for the dialogue and the support.
Dec 28, 2010 @ 14:30:55
I lived both womack and Womack but ‘baby I’m scared of you’ sorta became my anthem. I didn’t realize you were in London. I’d love to send you some playlists or tracks if you like (and how?) but you probably have them all! one amazing website that I love is called ‘awesome tapes from Africa’ not funk but just came to mind – I think thats the name – google it. So good!

Hello Musicologist,

Mar 23, 2011 @ 09:59:22
Marie,
Thank you for the comments..As you can see themusicologist has taken a back seat these last few months as I have been investing time and energy in other projects..I know your blog and enjoy it and you are most welcome to post a link to it. I’ll endeavor to get back in themusicologist saddle and upload a podcast featuring the Dixiaires..soon as I do I’ll let you know..
All the best..

I’m adding this separately, Musicologist, so you don’t have to publish it. I don’t want you to think that I’m trying to advertise my own blog (I’m not.) I just wanted to say that if you ever feel like taking a look at mine, you’d be most welcome. The address is:

Thanks again.
